A Commack man who changed lanes unsafely on the Northern State Parkway in South Huntington late Wednesday was driving drunk, State Police said.

Joseph Izaguirre, 46, was driving a blue Volkswagen east on the parkway near Exit 41, Wolf Hill Road, at about 11:06 p.m. when he was pulled over for an unsafe lane change, police said.

Troopers said Izaguirre had "slurred speech, poor motor coordination and bloodshot, watery eyes," according to a Friday news release.

Also, troopers detected "a strong odor of alcoholic beverage."

Izaguirre failed sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. He provided a breath-analyzer reading of .18 percent, police said.

Izaguirre also is charged with traffic violations and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on March 21.
