Troopers responding to a call about a possible drunken driver arrested a Southampton man who they found passed out at the wheel of his car, State Police said.

Robert Chavez, 36, provided a positive breath sample that tested at .33 percent blood alcohol content -- more than four times the legal limit of .08 percent, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated after the stop early Tuesday evening.

Police said the troopers were responding to a call reporting the possible DWI at a USA gas station on Flanders Road in Hampton Bays. The troopers said they found Chavez asleep at the wheel of his black Chevy Impala at 6:30 p.m.

Police said Chavez failed sobriety tests before providing the positive breath sample.

He is scheduled to appear in Town of Southampton Justice Court on May 7, police said.
