A North Bellport man who was pulled over for speeding tried to elude police Monday morning and ended up ramming a patrol car on an East Patchogue cul-de-sac, Suffolk County police said.

A Fifth Precinct officer stopped a 1996 Nissan Maxima for speeding on Roe Boulevard in East Patchogue at about 1:30 a.m., police said. The driver of the Maxima pulled over, but when the officer got out of his car, the driver in the Maxima sped off, police said.

After a short pursuit, the driver, Jason Mann, 30, of 587 Patchogue Ave., was cornered by police on Mercedes Court, police said. Mann tried to escape the cul-de-sac, police said, by ramming his car into the front end of a police car.

There were no injuries as a result of the accident or the pursuit, police said.

Mann was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Arraignment information was not immediately available.
