A drunken driver sent a parked car crashing into a home in Brentwood Wednesday night after he struck the vehicle with his pickup truck, then ran before being arrested, police said.

Suffolk County police said Ronald Rivera, 26, of Chapel Hill Drive in Brentwood, was driving his 1988 Nissan pickup while intoxicated when he struck a 1995 Toyota parked in front of a home on Van Buren Street just before 10 p.m.

The force of the crash sent the Toyota careening out of control across the front lawn of the home before the unoccupied vehicle crashed into the house. Police said Rivera then ran away, but was arrested a short time later.

Rivera was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries, then was arrested and charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said.

He was held overnight and is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip.
