Cops: Drunken driver parks at State Police barracks
An alleged drunken driver picked the wrong place to pull off the road late Tuesday night -- in the parking lot of the State Police barracks in Brentwood.
Juan Molina, 39, of Bay Shore, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after, police said, troopers found him passed out at the wheel of his blue Hyundai in the barracks lot.
Police said the car was parked in a visitors space in the lot off Crooked Hill Road, with its headlights on and the engine running, when troopers knocked on the window about 11:45 p.m. to ask Molina whether he needed assistance.
Then, police said, the troopers "noticed he was asleep at the wheel." When they awakened -- and interviewed -- Molina, police said, the troopers detected "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." Police said the troopers conducted a field sobriety test on Molina.
Later, Molina provided a breath sample that registered a 0.17 percent blood alcohol content, police said. The legal limit in New York is 0.08 percent.
Molina was issued an appearance ticket for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 23, police said.
