A drunken driver rammed his Honda into a utility pole in North Babylon early Tuesday, temporarily closing a portion of Deer Park Avenue, Suffolk County police said.

Andrew Madonia, 23, of North Babylon, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center with head injuries after the accident at about 12:57 a.m., police said. His injuries were not serious, police said, and his passenger was not hurt.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

PSEG Long Island was sent to repair the pole, closing a portion of Deer Park Avenue, between Pickwick Lane and Edmunton Drive, for a short time.

Madonia was arraigned Tuesday and released on his own recognizance. He was represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on cases.
