Cops: DWI arrest for Sag Harbor mom with kids in car
A Sag Harbor woman was charged with endangering her two children and driving while intoxicated Tuesday after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a utility pole in Bridgehampton, police said.
Christina C. Kelly, 34, and her two daughters, aged 6- and 2, were transported by Bridgehampton Fire Department Rescue ambulance to Southampton Hospital, where all three were treated and released. Kelly was then arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and with driving while intoxicated, Southampton police said.
Kelly was traveling south on Millstone Road at 4:37 p.m., when the 2007 Land Rover she was driving crossed over the northbound lane and struck a utility pole, police said.
A total of three utility poles fell into the roadway as a result of the crash, police said, placing live power lines on the ground, and closing the roadway in both directions for several hours.
Kelly was treated for a laceration to her hand, the 6-year-old was treated for injuries to her head, arm and knee, and the 2-year-old was treated for face injuries, police said.
Kelly was to be held overnight at Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays, and arraigned Wednesday in Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays.
The two children were released by Child Protective Services into the custody of their grandparents, police said.
