Cops: DWI charge for driver going 95 mph
A Connecticut man pulled over for speeding and erratic driving Sunday on the Southern State Parkway in West Babylon faces drunken driving charges, State Police said.
At about 4:45 a.m., troopers saw a white Ford minivan eastbound on the parkway near Exit 36, Straight Path, doing 95 mph in a posted 55 mph zone, police said. The driver also made several unsafe lane changes without using his signals and nearly hit four other vehicles, police said.
When troopers directed the driver to pull onto the shoulder, the minivan eventually stopped in the right lane of traffic, police said.
While interviewing the driver, Manual Rosa-Diaz, 38, of Waterbury, Conn., the troopers noticed a strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot, watery eyes. Rosa-Diaz failed sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.
He provided a breath-analyzer sample of .15 percent, police said, and is charged with DWI and several traffic violations. His arraignment information was not immediately available.
On Friday, troopers arrested a Centerport man on drunken driving charges at a DWI roadcheck on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in East Garden City.
Police said William Dimmler, 40, failed to slow down while going through the roadcheck at about 10:41 p.m. and then had an odor of alcohol and failed sobriety tests as he was being interviewed.
He was arrested and provided a breath-analyzer sample of .09 percent, police said.
Dimmler is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on July 25.
