An East Setauket driver and her passenger were seriously injured Wednesday morning when their car was struck by a drunken driver in Holbrook, Suffolk County police said.

Police said James O'Donnell, 47, of 4 Kerry Ct., Centereach, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was held for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said O'Donnell was driving his 1995 Mercury Marquis northbound on Holbrook Road when he crashed into a 2005 Lincoln driven by Kristen Iacono, 26, westbound on the north service road of the Long Island Expressway. The crash occurred at 12:08 a.m.

Iacono and passenger Joseph Kemp, 30, of Holbrook, were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Ronkonkoma Rescue.

Police said Iacono was admitted with serious injuries, and Kemp was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Their conditions were not immediately known.
