Police escort Craig Monte, 59, of West Babylon, who has been charged with driving while intoxicated after he was arrested while driving with his 5- and 9-year-old grandchildren in the car, police said. (April 2, 2012) Credit: James Carbone

Police arrested a West Babylon man on charges of driving while intoxicated with two of his grandchildren in his sport utility vehicle.

Suffolk police said they found Craig Monte, 59, of 17th Street, about 5 p.m. Sunday, driving in the parking lot of Van Bourgondien Park, off of Albin Avenue, in West Babylon. He was intoxicated and had his 5- and 9-year-old grandchildren in the rear of the car, police said.

Monte was charged with driving while intoxicated, two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
