Cops: DWI man fled police on foot
A 21-year-old Hampton Bays man, stopped after he ran a stop sign in Hampton Bays, was arrested and charged with drunken driving and drug possession, Southampton Town police said.
Police did not say when the arrest took place.
William R. Altman was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic infractions, police said.
He was held for arraignment Thursday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
Police said an officer saw Altman, driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck, run a stop sign at the intersection of Penny Lane and Shinnecock Road. He then failed to maintain his travel lane on southbound Penny Lane, police said. After a traffic stop, police said Altman exited the pickup -- and fled the scene.
He was arrested after a short foot pursuit, police said.
