Cops: East Hampton man broke probation with gun, drugs
An East Hampton man violated the terms of his probation when authorities searched his home Wednesday and found a loaded firearm and drugs, East Hampton Town Police said.
Melvin C. Smith, 48, of 26 Morris Park Lane, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
East Hampton Det. Sgt. Greg Schaefer said his department assisted the Suffolk County Probation Department with the search of the home, as is a condition of Smith's probation.
Arraignment information for Smith was not immediately available.
