Cops: East Northport fisherman drowns in N.J. reservoir
The drowning death of an East Northport fisherman whose body was recovered Monday from a New Jersey reservoir was accidental, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
The body of Kenneth Rohatyn, 56, was found in the Round Valley Reservoir in Clinton Township at 6:50 p.m. Monday after he fell out of a canoe, authorities said.
Sgt. Adam Grossman of the New Jersey State Police said Tuesday that an autopsy indicates the cause of death was asphyxiation due to drowning.
Grossman said the accidental death remains under investigation.
State Police, including an aviation unit and marine service boats, responded to an emergency call about a boat capsizing at about 11:45 a.m. Monday.
Originally, police were told two people could have gone into the water when the canoe capsized, but further investigation revealed that Rohatyn was fishing alone, Grossman said.
