Suffolk police have charged an East Northport man with trying to rob a local bank Thursday, after they tracked down the taxi he used as a getaway car, authorities said.

Nicholas Bono, 26, is accused of going into the Roslyn Bank at 580 Larkfield Rd. at about 10:30 a.m. and passing a note to a teller demanding cash, police said. The teller complied and Bono fled in a taxi that was waiting for him outside the bank, police said.

Second Precinct officers tracked down the cab and discovered Bono had been dropped off at the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, where he was arrested at 12:20 p.m., police said.

Bono was charged with third-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
