Cops: EMT sexually abused female patient
A state-certified emergency medical technician "inappropriately touched" a female patient while she was being transported to a hospital earlier this month, Suffolk police said Wednesday, several hours after the suspect surrendered himself for arrest.
Kristopher Kahl, 22, of Artist Lake Blvd. in Middle Island, who police said was volunteering for the Mastic Ambulance Company, was released on station-house bail after he was arrested at the precinct Wednesday by Seventh Squad detectives on a charge of third-degree sexual abuse, said Det. Lt. Gail Marrero.
She said the incident occurred about 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 4 as the victim was being taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead after a 911 call.
"During that transport, a medical assessment was conducted, during which she was subjected to inappropriate sexual touching," Marrero said, adding that the victim's "intimate parts" were touched.
The victim reported the incident when she arrived at the hospital, Marrero said. Police conducted an investigation over the next several days and asked Kahl to surrender.
Neither Kahl nor ambulance officials could be reached for comment Wednesday night.
Kahl will be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip at a future date, Marrero said.
Detectives said tipsters could contact detectives at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
