Suffolk County police arrested five people at a Memorial Day weekend sobriety checkpoint in Smithtown.

Authorities at the checkpoint, set up from 11 p.m. Friday to 2:45 a.m. Saturday, stopped 543 vehicles traveling on Route 25. Metropolitan Transportation Authority police assisted.

Charged with driving while intoxicated were: Raymond Alzheimer, 41, of Kings Park; Nicole Wiggins, 26, of Smithtown; Diderot Saintilus, 35, of Huntington; Karin McPoland, 60, of Smithtown; and Eugene Sheynberg, 29, of Lindenhurst.

All were scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
