A Florida man was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged with driving while intoxicated after his car went off the road along Route 25 in Greenport, striking numerous objects before coming to rest against a building, Southold Town police said.

Michael Zervos, 46, of Holiday, Fla., was driving a 2006 Toyota east on Route 25 at 5:17 p.m. when he drove off the road at a curve and hit a road sign and a utility pole, police said.

The vehicle continued east, crossing the road and striking a guardrail, before swinging around to face west and coming to rest against the Southold Fish Market, police said.

Zervos was charged with driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport for medical evaluation.

The Long Island Power Authority was called to repair the pole, a process that closed Route 25 for several hours, police said.
