Two people inside a West Islip home were struck by a baseball bat and taken to a hospital for treatment after four men burglarized the home early Sunday and fled before Suffolk County police officers arrested them, authorities said.
The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officers arrested the four West Islip residents after someone inside the house in the 800 block of West Bay Drive called 911 and gave responding officers their descriptions, police said. An officer saw two men fitting the description outside a vehicle at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Muncey Road. The officer noticed two more suspects inside the vehicle and arrested the four, police said.
Charged with burglary were Joseph Cardona, 18, of 152 Malts Ave.; Edward Flaherty, 18, of 31 Sequams Lane; Frank Fabozzi, 20, of 855 West Bay Dr.; and Thomas Hillier, 18, of 412 Arcadia Dr.
Detectives said the house was targeted for burglary and the investigation is continuing.
