Police officers who witnessed four suspects running from an accident scene in North Lindenhurst late Wednesday discovered the car had been stolen -- launching a search for those involved.

Suffolk County police said the investigation was ongoing early Thursday and declined comment on whether any of the four suspects had been apprehended.

The accident occurred on North Alleghany Avenue at about 11:50 p.m., police said. It was then that officers spotted four suspects running from the scene of the crash.

Police said the officers determined the vehicle had been stolen -- but had not been reported stolen. Additional details were still emerging.
