A Medford gas station attendant faces identity theft and forgery charges after he used a laptop computer and an electronic skimming device to steal credit card numbers and PINs from customers, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

Police arrested Danny Diaz, 20, of 107 Seymour Lane, Medford, at about 8:55 p.m. Monday.

He is charged with identity theft, criminal possession of a forged instrument and possession of a skimmer device, police said. Arraignment information was not immediately available.

Police said when he was arrested Diaz was in possession of a fake Department of Homeland Security Permanent Resident Card and a fake Social Security card.

Diaz allegedly set up a laptop computer with a camera and a skimming device to steal the credit card numbers and personal identification numbers of customers swiping their credit cards and debit cards at a gas station on Route 112 in Medford, where he was a night-shift attendant, police said.

Police said they are withholding the name and address of the gas station because of the "sensitive nature of the investigation."

Police said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with more information can call the Identity Theft Unit, 631-852-6821.
