A female bicyclist, 14, was killed in a single motor vehicle accident, police said. (June 15, 2013) Credit: Hampton Pix

A 14-year-old girl died after a sports utility vehicle hit the bike she was riding and pinned her under the vehicle Saturday afternoon in East Hampton Village, police said.

The accident happened on Pantigo Road, Route 27, at the intersection of Gay Lane about 1:25 p.m. Six to eight good Samaritans helped to free the teenager, who was taken by the East Hampton Village Ambulance to the East Hampton Airport, police said. From there, the Suffolk County police helicopter flew her to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she died, police said.

Police did not provide the name and gender of the 73-year-old driver, who was not injured. The name of the teenager who died was not released.

The car was impounded for safety inspection.
