A grandson was arrested early Friday in the slaying of his grandmother at their Kings Park home, some time after the two had argued over what to watch on television, police said.

Clarence Newcomb, 25, faces a first-degree manslaughter charge in the death of Kathleen Newcomb, 82, Suffolk County police said.

The two had lived together most of the grandson's life, homicide Det. Sgt. John Best said.

"The grandmother more or less raised him," Best said. "He was raised by her since he was 4 years old."

Best said the exact time of Kathleen Newcomb's death is still under investigation, but the grandson called 911 at 4:35 a.m. Friday, and emergency units responded immediately to the home at 64 Berg Ave. She was found lying on the floor, police said.

"By the time the police got there, it was obvious she was DOA," Best said. "They were arguing over the television and what they were going to watch on TV."

Newcomb was to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court, Central Islip.
