A Greenport man was arrested Sunday and charged with assaulting a Shelter Island man with a knife the week before and then attacking another man at a hospital, Southold Town police said.

Hraklis C. Morris, 36, was charged with first-degree and third-degree assault after his arrest at 9:20 a.m. Morris was arraigned Sunday in Southold Town Justice Court. He was held without bail and scheduled to return to court later this week.

Police said the incidents for which Morris is charged took place on Nov. 17. First, police said, Norris caused "serious physical injury" to a 24-year-old Shelter Island man he attacked with a knife during an altercation in a parking lot behind a laundry on Adams Street in Greenport. Morris also was injured in that incident, police said.

Later, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, police said Morris assaulted a 33-year-old Southold man in the emergency room. Details of that incident were not available.

Police said the emergency room staff initially reported injuries were sustained trying to subdue Morris. No charges have been filed stemming from those claims, police said.
