Cops: Greenport man raped woman at beach
A Greenport man was arrested Wednesday, after police said he sexually assaulted a 33-year-old Greenport woman.
Rudy Orlando Cruz-Ventura, 33, was arrested and charged with one count of rape in the first degree, according to a news release from Southold Town police.
Police said in the statement the alleged sexual assault happened Tuesday night at Goldsmith's Inlet Beach in Southold. Cruz-Ventura was arrested at a Shelter Island business and was brought to Southold police headquarters in Peconic. He was being held pending his arraignment in Southold Justice Court.
Shelter Island police assisted in the investigation, Southold police said.
