An East Northport bank was robbed Thursday by a man brandishing an automatic handgun, Suffolk police said.

The gunman, 50 to 60 years old, entered the People's United Bank branch at 565 Larkfield Rd., carrying a dark backpack, about 5:30 p.m., police said. He displayed the handgun and demanded cash, police said.

After getting money from a teller's drawer, the gunman fled on foot, police said.

No one was injured during the robbery, police said.

Detectives said the suspect has a stocky build is about 5 feet, 8 inches or 5 feet, 9 inches tall; and was wearing a short-sleeve shirt with a dark T-shirt underneath, a dark hat with no logo, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
