A 34-year-old Hampton Bays woman whose car skidded off the road and crashed into a utility pole on Foster Avenue in Hampton Bays suffered only minor injuries Thursday, but was arrested a short time after the accident and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Southampton Town police said Stacia Sallhofen, of 91 Foster Ave., crashed into the pole in front of Tully's Seafood Market at 4:25 p.m. Thursday, cracking it and downing utility wires.

Police said Sallhofen was transported to Southampton Hospital by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance and charged with DWI.

The road was closed about four hours, police said.

Sallhofen was held overnight and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
