Cops: Hamptons driving charged with DWI after using cellphone, tailgating
An East Hampton man was arrested and charged with drunken driving after a Southampton Town police officer spotted him using his hand-held cellphone and tailgating another driver early Sunday on Sunrise Highway.
Santiago Aguiree-Uchupaille, 23, was arrested after police initiated a traffic stop in Hampton Bays at 5:01 a.m.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, and also was issued citations for driving while using a mobile phone, following too close and for operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was held for arraignment on Monday, police said.
Police said that the officer spotted Aguiree-Uchupaille tailing another vehicle, while using his hand-held cellphone, on eastbound Montauk Highway -- leading to the stop.
