A Long Beach woman walking along the side of a road in West Babylon was struck by a hit-and-run driver and seriously injured Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

June Gittelson, 67, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and admitted in serious condition with a broken leg and hip, police said.

The incident occurred on Great East Neck Road at about 11:45 p.m. Police said Gittelson was walking along the east side of the road when she was struck by the vehicle, which was traveling north.

The driver fled the scene.
