Suffolk County police Wednesday arrested a Holbrook man they said ran over a pedestrian who yelled at him for driving too fast through a residential neighborhood

Joseph Alfeo, 34, drove his Cadillac sedan into a man on Holbrook Road in Lake Ronkonkoma last August after the two argued, police said.

Alfeo fled the scene and the man was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center with a shoulder injury.

"We had no leads" beyond a description of the vehicle, said Lt. Michael S. Murphy of the Sixth Precinct Crime Section.

But after police put out a Crime Stoppers alert that generated tips, Murphy said, the investigation -- headed by Officer Christopher Gundlach -- led to Alfeo.

"We got tips that identified the operator and owner of the car," Murphy said.

Officers began visiting Alfeo's home and the homes of his friends, looking for Alfeo and his Cadillac, and his attorney called to arrange his surrender.

Police charged Alfeo with assault and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. He was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Nov. 22. His Cadillac was impounded.
