Cops: Homeless man charged with stabbing mom, sister

A homeless man estranged from his family stabbed his mother and sister multiple times late Thursday in Brentwood, leaving each with serious injuries, Suffolk County police said.

Seyon Layne, 26, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree assault after the attack at his mother's home, police said Friday.

Layne entered the Strum Street home Thursday night, and a verbal altercation began between Layne and his mother, police said.

The argument escalated, and his mother, 45, ran into a bedroom that was occupied by her 15-year-old daughter, police said.

Layne allegedly forced his way into the room and stabbed both women multiple times before they fled. Police were called from a neighbor's house about 8:50 p.m., according to a news release.

Both women were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where they were listed in serious condition after undergoing surgeries, police said.

Officer William Krolikiewicz and his canine, Bema, found Layne hiding in the yard of an abandoned residence nearby. Layne fought with Bema, who bit Layne on his head, police said. The suspect continued resisting, and another officer used a stun gun to subdue him, police said.

Layne was taken to a nearby hospital. His arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
