Suffolk County police Monday night were searching for a man who robbed a Huntington bank.

Detectives said the man entered the Capital One bank, 250 New York Ave., about 5:30 p.m. and demanded cash from the teller, flashing what "appeared to be a firearm."

After the teller complied and handed over an undisclosed sum of cash, the robber ran away heading south on New York Avenue, according to a police report.

The suspected robber is described as a male with a thin to medium build who is 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, gloves and a cloth mask.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspected robber is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. Suffolk police officials say calls will remain confidential.
