Cops: Huntington Station man found dead in river

A Huntington Station man was found dead floating in a Pennsylvania river Sunday by a kayaker paddling past his body, police said.

The body of Miguel A. Rivera, 55, was badly decomposed by the time Easton, Pa., police pulled him from the Lehigh River three blocks from the city's downtown area, said Det. Darren Snyder of the Easton Police Department.

"Right now we're listing it as suspicious," Snyder said. "He was so decomposed, no way of telling whether there was foul play."

The Northampton County, Pa., coroner will do an autopsy, Snyder said.

Snyder said Rivera was found with a New York driver's license listing a Huntington Station address, but it was not clear whether he still lives there.

Rivera was wearing blue jeans and a white button-down shirt when his body was found at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Snyder said.

The Lehigh River flows from the Poconos until it empties into the Delaware River at Easton.

Snyder said it is not known how long Rivera's body was in the water or where he went into it. At Easton, Snyder said, the current is very slow.

"We're trying to track down his family," Snyder said. "We're hoping one of his relatives comes forward."
