Suffolk County police have identified the bicyclist killed in Lake Ronkonkoma as Ernesto Munguia, 26, of Holbrook.

Munguia was riding his bike about 2 a.m. Saturday near Lorraine Court when he collided with Kristine Costantino, 28, of Holbrook, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet westbound on Express Drive North, officials said.

Munguia, who police said pulled out in front of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His brother-in-law, Danny Larrosa, said Munguia's family was unsure where he was going at the time of the accident.

"I think he was just trying out his new bike," Larrosa said. "He was just taking it for a stroll and unfortunately this happened."

Munguia, who was about two blocks away from his home when the accident happened, became interested in biking about a month ago and had planned to train for a bike marathon, Larrosa said.

Munguia, an avid hockey fan who was unemployed at the time of his death, attended high school in Holbrook, Larrosa said.

"He's going to be missed by his family," Larrosa said.

No criminal charges have been filed, a police spokesman said Sunday.
