Cops ID pedestrian hit, killed in Shirley

Suffolk County police are investigating a fatal accident Wednesday morning on the William Floyd Parkway in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian, a spokesman said.
The spokesman said police received a call at 5:22 a.m. about a pedestrian being hit on the northbound lanes of the parkway, near Lawrence Drive in Shirley.
Police said Jeffrey Orellana, 25, was crossing the parkway when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Emanuel Verdi.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Verdi, 64, of Mastic Beach, was not injured and does not face charges.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers, 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
