Cops: In DWI arrest, woman was texting, too

A Commack woman accused of drunken driving on the Southern State Parkway Thursday was also speeding and texting while driving, State Police said.
Samantha J. Carey, 21, was found to be in possession of marijuana and unprescribed medication, police said.
She was charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations.
Carey was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, released and given a court appearance ticket for Jan. 23.
She was stopped on the westbound Southern State, east of Route 231, on Deer Park Avenue in the Deer Park-North Babylon area, bout 1:30 a.m. by a trooper who spotted her allegedly texting while driving. Her vehicle was speeding and failed to maintain its travel lane, police said.
Carey failed a field sobriety test and provided a breath sample that indicated a blood-alcohol content of .12 percent, police said. The legal limit is .08 percent.
