A confrontation between acquaintances ended in an early morning stabbing Monday in Lindenhurst, police said.

Dale Campiglia, 47, of 501 Leonard Ct., Lindenhurst, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault after Suffolk County police said he stabbed Robert St. John, 25, "multiple times" about 2:10 a.m. Monday during an altercation on Wellwood Avenue.

St. John, also of Lindenhurst, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was treated and later released.

Police did not say what caused the confrontation, adding only that the two men, "who are known to one another," were "involved in an altercation on the street."

Campiglia is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
