A driver who tailed a high school student three days in a row was arrested Friday in Islip after officers waited for him, Suffolk police said.
Adolfo Diaz, 54, of Central Islip, was caught shortly after 7 a.m. when he again drove up in a red van and kept pace with a 16-year-old girl as she walked to Islip High School on Union Boulevard, police said.
He was charged with first-degree harassment and was released on precinct bail of $100 to be arraigned at a later date, police said.
The case started when Islip High School officials contacted police because the student said a man had approached her on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.
Officers interviewed the girl and her father Thursday, then decided to see if the driver would appear again Friday, said Sgt. James Scimone of the Third Precinct crime section.
"He was pretty predictable the last couple of days," Scimone said.
Diaz, of 11 Cone Ave., did not say much about what happened, the sergeant said.
"It seemed like he liked her a little bit too much," Scimone said. "I have no idea why he was doing what he was doing."
