Cops: Man arrested in 3 bank robberies
A Lindenhurst man was arrested shortly after he robbed a West Babylon bank Tuesday morning, police said, and was later charged with two other bank robberies and an attempted robbery in Suffolk County.
Steve Sebastopoli, 53, of 721 S. Fourth St., was charged with robbing the TD Bank at 701 Montauk Hwy.
Sebastopoli handed a teller at the bank a note demanding money about 10:17 a.m., Suffolk police said. After receiving the cash, he fled in a silver Kia SUV, police said.
Officer David Leath found Sebastopoli a short time later and made the arrest, police said. Investigating major case detectives later charged him with several additional crimes.
Sebastopoli was charged with robbing the Chase Bank at 595 Sunrise Hwy., West Babylon on March 3; the Apple Bank at 151 E. Sunrise Hwy., North Lindenhurst on March 25; and the attempted robbery of the Polish Slavic Federal Credit Union, 314 Great Neck Rd., Copiague on April 7.
Sebastopoli was to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Central Islip.
