A Brooklyn man is accused of scamming elderly Suffolk County residents out of thousands of dollars in bogus chimney repairs and additional arrests in the case are expected, Southold Town Police said.

Chris Lopez, 23, was arrested Friday in the scamming of a Mattituck resident out of $4,500. Police said Lopez and two as-yet-unidentified co-conspirators received the cash in advance for the chimney repairs and then fled without performing the work.

Police said the threesome have likely been involved in similar scams throughout the county. More arrests in the case are pending, police said.

Lopez faces a grand larceny charge and is being held without bail pending his arraignment in Southold Town Justice Court.

Anyone with information about similar incidents is asked to call the Southold Town Police Detective Division at 631-765-2600.
