Cops: Man charged with DWI after crashing into cars

A Central Islip man was drunk early Wednesday when he struck a pedestrian in a parking lot, hit two parked vehicles and then rear-ended another car in traffic as he tried to leave the scene, Suffolk County police said.
Alcides Melgar, 23, was arrested after hitting a 2008 Toyota Corolla on Suffolk Avenue, east of Fulton Street, in Brentwood at about 2:20 a.m., police said.
Melgar, of 83 Bark Ave., is charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Melgar pulled his 2008 Nissan Altima out of a parking spot near 1024 Suffolk Ave. and hit the pedestrian and two parked vehicles, police said.
Then he drove off and hit the Toyota before stopping.
The pedestrian, Joshua Serrano, 26, of Central Islip, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with serious leg injuries, according to a news release.
The driver of the Toyota, Christopher Ocloo, 23, also of Central Islip, was taken to Southside with minor injuries.
Melgar's car was impounded for a safety check, police said, and an investigation is continuing.
