A Centereach man was arrested and charged with drunken driving after Suffolk County police said he crashed into a marked police patrol car on Route 112 in Coram on Friday.

Jose Argueta, 22, was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after the 2:44 a.m. crash at the intersection of Route 112 and Route 25, Middle Country Road.

The officer, assigned to the Sixth Precinct, and a passenger in Argueta's car were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police said the officer was "slowing to a stop" at a light on Route 112 when Argueta, driving a 1998 Honda, attempted to make a turn from westbound Route 25 onto southbound Route 112 -- but instead crashed into the patrol car.

Argueta is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
