A Brentwood man was arrested Wednesday because police said he was driving drunk and crashed his Honda Civic with his young daughter in the car.
Suffolk police said Jose Umanzor, 34, was driving a 2001 Civic in a parking lot at 801 Crooked Hill Rd. in Brentwood when he tried to make a U-turn and backed into a vacant parked car.
Neither Umanzor or his 4-year-old daughter were injured in the crash, police said.
Umanzor, of Grouse Street, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger in the vehicle, or Leandra's Law.
The girl was released to a family member, police said. Umanzor is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
Leandra's Law was passed in 2009 after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11. She was killed in a drunken-driving accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.
