A clerk for an Eastport market faces charges of selling alcohol to a minor, State Police said.

On Sunday, police conducted an underage drinking initiative at Citarelli's Market, 525 Montauk Hwy. Police said the initiative was geared toward finding store clerks who sell to minors.

At 11:10 a.m., an underage person purchased alcohol from Ali Akdeniz, 60, of Westhampton, a clerk at Citarelli's, police said.

Under New York State law, alcohol can be sold to persons 21 and older.

Akdeniz was arrested and is charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and selling alcohol to a minor, police said. He is due to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on Oct. 27.
