A man walking along a street in Huntington Station was seriously injured late Monday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver whose vehicle dragged him 500 feet, police said.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Police said he was taken by Huntington Community Rescue to Huntington Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He is in serious condition Tuesday, police said.

Police said the man was walking in the westbound lane of Jericho Turnpike in front of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Thorney Avenue when he was struck at 10:36 p.m. Police said the vehicle continued on about 500 feet before the pedestrian was dislodged -- in front of the Walt Whitman Motor Lodge. The vehicle then fled.

Police have not provided any description of the vehicle.
