Cops: Man dragged 500 feet in hit-run
A man walking along a street in Huntington Station was seriously injured late Monday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver whose vehicle dragged him 500 feet, police said.
Suffolk County police are still searching for the driver and are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Police said he was taken by Huntington Community Rescue to Huntington Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He is in serious condition Tuesday, police said.
Police said the man was walking in the westbound lane of Jericho Turnpike in front of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Thorney Avenue when he was struck at 10:36 p.m. Police said the vehicle continued on about 500 feet before the pedestrian was dislodged -- in front of the Walt Whitman Motor Lodge. The vehicle then fled.
