A Hauppauge man who received a ticket for driving 135 miles per hour down Sunrise Highway on Saturday was arrested hours later for driving while intoxicated, state police said this morning.

Jeffrey M. Syrop, 26, was first stopped by Exit 63 on Sunrise Highway at 4:09 p.m. Police said he had been driving his 2004 Ford Mustang at 135 miles per hour in a zone with a speed limit of 55.

Roughly five hours later, Syrop was stopped again on Shinnecock Road in Hampton Bays after failing to stop at a stop sign, police said. After he was given a field sobriety test troopers arrested him on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Syrop was released and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 13.
