Cops: Man charged in death at Lake Ronkonkoma assisted living home
A Lake Ronkonkoma man was charged with murder in the death of another resident at an assisted-living facility on Saturday, Suffolk County police said.
Staff members at Lake Shore Assisted Living on Lake Shore Drive found Francis McCaffrey, 82, dead in his room at 10:15 a.m., police said.
Homicide detectives said his roommate, Roger Diamond, 73, repeatedly beat McCaffrey to death.
Diamond then jumped 15 feet from a second-story window before police were called. He was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was treated for his injuries, police said.
Police charged Diamond with second-degree murder. His arraignment has not been set.
The Suffolk County medical examiner’s office will determine McCaffrey’s cause of death.
