Cops: Man gets ride to ATM, gets robbed
Two men were arrested Thursday after giving a man a ride to an ATM machine, then taking his $60 by using the butt of a knife to attack him, Southampton police said.
Matthew A. Caiaccia, 30, of Port Jefferson, and Lester Dejon Pettaway, 21, of Brookhaven, were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
The victim had met the two at Bubs Tavern in Hampton Bays, where he asked them for a ride to an ATM machine, police said.
After the victim withdrew the $60, Caiaccia and Pettaway took the money and assaulted him with knife, police said.
A 911 caller at 4:22 a.m. reported a fight in the rear parking lot of a Chase bank in Hamptons Bay, police said.
The two robbers took off in their vehicle, but officers stopped them seconds later on Ponquogue Avenue, police said.
Caiaccia and Pettaway were each held Thursday on $50,000 bail.
