Cops: Man in purple pants robs Babylon bank
A thief in a painter's hat and purple pants robbed a Babylon bank with a threatening note on Saturday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.
The stickup happened at the Capital One Bank at 8 Little East Neck Rd. at about 3 p.m., police said.
He walked into the bank, handed the teller a note demanding cash, and the teller gave him the money. He ran out of the bank's back door.
Police did not immediately indicate what his note said, how much money he got, whether the teller included a dye pack or whether the suspect showed a weapon.
The robber is believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, and described as being 5-foot-5, with a thin build and dark hair. He was wearing the white painter's hat, sunglasses, a dark jacket and the purple pants with a white stripe, police said. He had a black shoulder bag.
The bank, a one-story brick building, is on the corner of Little East Neck and busy Montauk Highway.
Cops from Suffolk's major case squad asked anyone with information about the robbery to call their hotline: 800-220-TIPS.
