Cops: Man's graffiti gave him away

Maybe next time he'll consider a different graffiti tag.
Suffolk police arrested a Calverton man late Tuesday who they said made graffiti on Port Jefferson Village property between Feb. 14 and 15. According to police, Timothy Saunders covered a village wall on Surf Avenue near the entrance to the Setauket Yacht Club with graffiti, using the tag "Timothy of the Seven Seas."
Police said Sixth Precinct Gang Unit officers received a tip from a Port Jefferson Village constable related to the tagging. They determined Saunders, 23, was responsible and arrested him Tuesday at 11:55 p.m. in Coram. Saunders was in possession of oxycodone and hydrocodone at the time of the arrest, police said.
Saunders, of 12 Penny Dr. in Calverton, was charged with making graffiti, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sixth Precinct Gang Unit Sgt. Thomas McDermott said he doesn't believe the tagging was gang-related or that Saunders is affiliated with any gang.
McDermott said the investigation into other possible incidents of graffiti is ongoing.
Saunders was arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip on $2,500 bond or $1,000 cash. Records show he posted bail and was released Wednesday.
