Cops: Man who crashed car, left hurt passengers, arrested
The driver of a Jaguar who ran from police after a short pursuit that ended in a crash, injuring his passengers, was arrested Thursday, Suffolk County police said.
Alan Michael Gulston of 1 Hale St. in Coram was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, unlawfully fleeing from a police officer and criminal possession of stolen property - the license plates on the Jaguar.
Gulston, who also was charged with traffic infractions, was arraigned Thursday and freed on bail, police said. Police said he is scheduled to return to court in July.
About 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, an officer saw the Jaguar driven by Gulston run a red light on southbound Route 112 in Coram, police said.
The officer tried to pull over the car, but the Jaguar fled, police said.
Police said Gulston turned off the headlights, ignored the officer's attempt to stop his car, ran a second red light and lost control of the car as he turned left onto Glenmere Lane in Coram. He then crashed into concrete castings used for commercial sewer installations.
A front-seat passenger was taken to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was treated and released. One of the two rear-seat passengers suffered a broken collarbone and a concussion and was treated at Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said. The other refused medical attention.
Gulston fled on foot but was arrested following an investigation by detectives from the Sixth Precinct Crime Section, police said.
